Why do I make signatures and art in general? I believe some of my reasons are the same as yours...

The first is that when I make anything, it gives me a sense of freedom from my everyday life. Most of the time its work, work, sleep.
When I finally get the opportunity to hop into GIMP and design something with all my heart, I TAKE IT! Sure, not everything I make is masterful and I don't always put all my heart into each and every piece. But I still feel great while I'm making it. Every time I open up GIMP and start with a new canvas I ask myself, "What shall I challenge myself with this time?". I try to see how creative I can be every time I create something new. You wouldn't believe the amount of projects I've "scrapped" in GIMP over the past couple years. I hate it when I'm having a rough day so if that happens, I lock myself in my room with my two cats for some company, I open up GIMP and I turn up the music. When I'm designing I either like peace and quiet or music playing. Though the music has to be something peaceful as well. Theres no way I could create anything descent while listening to something like Enter Sandman by Metallica. Instead I try to listen to things like Mt. Eden and believe it or not Kid Cudi. For rap and hip-hop, his music is very calming and very laid back. Maybe its because he's always high, lol.

Another reason I create art is to further my skills as an artist like so many people around the world do. I'm not the best and I probably never will be but as long as I like the pieces I'm creating thats all that matters. You can say all you want about them, all criticism is GOOD criticism. "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger." Not exactly an artistic quote but it fits.

Sometimes when I create certain pieces I try to imagine myself in that particular work. Try it with your own work, if you find that you'd be having a great time and that everything around you is amazing then that piece is probably pretty good. :) It can be very fun to put your mind at ease and think yourself a cat floating away with a couple sea turtles... what? lol
